Reaching Out

Reaching out to God’s World

We care about the Creation, and we care about others, especially those who are in need in our community and around the world.  We may be small but we are able to do a lot when we work together!  And as Margaret Mead said, “Never doubt that a small group of caring people can change the world;  indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.”

Solar Panels

2011, our Church installed solar panels.  We sell the energy,  we glean from the sun, to Hydro.  We are encouraging the world to use more renewable energy sources.

Food Bank

We contribute on a monthly basis to the Powassan and District Food Bank, and often make it the focus of our special offering at Christmas.  Visit their website here.

Composting

We have a composter at our church which is used to reduce waste but it also serves as a reminder to all of us to care for God’s creation through reducing, reusing and recycling.

Mission and Service Fund

We donate to the national United Church fund that supports ministries such as providing micro-loans for small farmers in Africa; digging wells in Nicaragua; financing church camps for Canadian children to attend; responding to the Ebola crisis or the need for life skills training in downtown Canadian missions for those who are trying to rebuild their lives.

The Basement Bookshop

By recycling used books, magazines, puzzles and games and DVDs  in our shop, we are  reducing waste.  Books are also donated to other local organizations and shipped overseas to less fortunate countries.

Grace House

Grace House Thrift Shop – We recycle clothing and small household items by selling them at a very reasonable price.  As well, when tragedy such as a house fire strikes in the community, we donate items free of charge to those in need.
